This post has been developed to increase access and reduce health inequalities for people with learning disabilities (LD) and/or autistic people. The post holder will act as a resource to support mental health inpatient service staff with managing complex health needs and making reasonable adjustments for people with a learning disability and/or autistic people who are admitted to mental health inpatient wards.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will need to be able to manage the interface between mental health inpatient hospital services, primary care services and community specialist services. The postholder will need to be confident in challenging professional and organisational boundaries and barriers and in identifying areas for skill/knowledge development. The post will involve the facilitation of training and developing resources in line with national advice and legislation. The aim of the role is to ensure that people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people have equity of access to mainstream mental health services.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience
  • Current professional registration - NMC, HCPC
  • Experience in working with people with LD and/or Autism
  • Post registration experience within mental health inpatient settings
  • Possession of a relevant degree or studying towards relevant subjects around LD and or Autism
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing patients with learning disabilities/autism in mental health areas
