Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Secretary to join our busy GP Surgery, supporting our clinical teams. We care for approximately 6,000 patients locally and are looking for a reliable, organised, and professional individual to help keep our practice running smoothly.

Hours: 24 hours per week (flexible working patterns considered)

Interviews: Week commencing 12th January 2026

Responsibilities
  • Typing and audio-typing referral letters to hospitals and other healthcare providers using word processing software and the surgery's clinical systems.
  • Processing referrals using the Electronic Referral System (ERS) and Cinapsis system and keeping up to date with system changes.
  • Dealing with patient queries concerning referrals to secondary care or other healthcare providers.
  • Typing administrative letters and other documents when required using a range of software including word processing, publishing, database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Updating patient records, including coding of entries and scanning of documents.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Providing holiday cover for the other medical secretary employed by the practice.
  • Arranging Locum Cover.
  • Updating/Amending our Nursing Rota.
  • Some IT duties are required (Smart Cards).
