Job description
Mechanical Technician

£35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience.

London Gateway, Essex.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Carrying out mechanical repairs and maintenance on conveyor belts and other production equipment.
  • Responding to breakdowns and working quickly to get things back up and running.
  • Working closely with the production teams to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Supporting other day‑to‑day facilities maintenance across the site, to include:
    • Fire alarms, extinguishers, and burglar alarms.
    • HVAC systems.
    • Electrical systems (lighting, CCTV, main supply, portables).
    • PAT testing of electrical equipment (training provided).
    • Vending machines and water coolers.
    • Water systems (main supply, softeners, heaters, dispensers).
  • Monitor the condition of the building, yard, and car park, arranging repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate and lead contractor visits related to facilities maintenance, compliance, and repairs.
  • Log and manage maintenance schedules to ensure timely completion.
  • Support in completing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with site procedures.
What we’re looking for:
  • Hands‑on mechanical experience – ideally in a factory or production setting.
  • City & Guilds, BTEC Level 3 or above in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
  • Recognised apprenticeship in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • A keen focus on Health & Safety, hygiene, and continuous improvement.
  • A proactive attitude and diagnostic thinking.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and a practical mindset.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, physical environment.
  • Flexibility to provide support for a 7‑day per‑week operation.

Working pattern: 5 days out of 7 that may include weekends.
