Mechanical Technician
£35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience.
London Gateway, Essex.
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out mechanical repairs and maintenance on conveyor belts and other production equipment.
- Responding to breakdowns and working quickly to get things back up and running.
- Working closely with the production teams to keep everything running smoothly.
- Supporting other day‑to‑day facilities maintenance across the site, to include:
- Fire alarms, extinguishers, and burglar alarms.
- HVAC systems.
- Electrical systems (lighting, CCTV, main supply, portables).
- PAT testing of electrical equipment (training provided).
- Vending machines and water coolers.
- Water systems (main supply, softeners, heaters, dispensers).
- Monitor the condition of the building, yard, and car park, arranging repairs as needed.
- Coordinate and lead contractor visits related to facilities maintenance, compliance, and repairs.
- Log and manage maintenance schedules to ensure timely completion.
- Support in completing risk assessments and ensuring compliance with site procedures.
What we’re looking for:
- Hands‑on mechanical experience – ideally in a factory or production setting.
- City & Guilds, BTEC Level 3 or above in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering.
- Recognised apprenticeship in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- A keen focus on Health & Safety, hygiene, and continuous improvement.
- A proactive attitude and diagnostic thinking.
- Good problem‑solving skills and a practical mindset.
- Comfortable working in a busy, physical environment.
- Flexibility to provide support for a 7‑day per‑week operation.
Working pattern: 5 days out of 7 that may include weekends.
