Job description
Mechanical Maintenance Craftsman

Salary: Competitive salary
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Allington, ME16 0LE

As a Mechanical Maintenance Craftsman at FCC Environment, you will:

  • Be responsible for the implementation and execution of all corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance in all areas of the process.
  • Liaise directly with Mechanical/Electrical Team Leaders to deliver a safe, effective, and efficient service to the Operations department.
  • Assist in developing maintenance philosophy and implementing new techniques to increase plant availability.
  • Supervise and liaise with sub-contractors and support the planning of all planned outages.
  • Deputise for the Mechanical Team Leader when required.
What are we looking for?

Experience:

  • Ideally 5 to 10 years’ previous experience in Power, Paper, Cement, or Energy from Waste industries.
  • Experience with preventative/predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, laser alignment, thermography, oil analysis).
  • Experience working with steam turbines and generators (preferred).
  • Crane maintenance experience and good knowledge of lifting operations/equipment.
  • Previous CMMS and hydraulics experience.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Recognised Apprenticeship from a similar industry, or HNC in a mechanically biased subject.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH safety accreditation.
  • Role-based qualifications (e.g., rigger/slinger or mobile plant).

Personal Attributes:

  • Ability to manage numerous sub-contractors in a planned outage environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Willingness and ability to operate flexibly across a wide range of work areas.
What will you be doing?
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out safely and in line with FCC safety policy and statutory requirements.
  • Carrying out risk assessments and striving for continual improvement in minimising Health and Safety risk.
  • Inducting visitors/subcontractors in site safety and emergency procedures.
  • Maintaining housekeeping standards and implementing tool box talks.
  • Supporting equipment upgrades, statutory inspections, and annual planned outages.
  • Actively involved in the use and development of the company CMMS.
