Job description

Mechanical Fitter - Telford

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Fitter to be based at our client's Telford facility. You will be an essential part of the team responsible for the assembly and set‑to‑work of high‑quality handling systems.

Working hours: Mon‑Thu 08:00‑16:45 / Fri 08:00‑12:00

Pay: TBC

Start Date: The client is looking to get people in Feb/March time.

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Fitter
  • Fitting and assembling machine component parts.
  • Installing hydraulic components and pipework on machines.
  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings and hydraulic schematics.
  • Operating manual and power tools.
  • Completing fitting work from supplied drawings.
  • Working to tight time schedules and producing a high‑quality end product.
  • Assisting with forklift and overhead crane operations when required.
  • Working in accordance with QHSE Management System Policies and Procedures.
  • Being flexible for regularly required overtime, often at short notice.
Qualifications

Preferably a recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering plus satisfactory completion of a relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent. In the absence of an NVQ or equivalent, applicants should have relevant trade experience working in a similar industry.

Technical Skills
  • Proficient in the proper use of engineering hand tools, portable power tools, and basic machine tools.
  • Ability to understand general arrangement and detailed drawings.
  • Ability to understand hydraulic schematics.
General Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently both in a team environment and independently.
  • Good working knowledge of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Procedures, with a positive attitude towards safety.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Flexible approach to overtime, including weekends when necessary.
