Mechanical Engineer

A leading product development consultancy is experiencing significant growth and is looking for talented Mechanical Engineers to join its expanding multidisciplinary team. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the technical development of innovative products across a wide range of sectors including consumer, transport, healthcare and industrial.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll take a hands‑on technical lead across diverse high-impact projects – from consumer electronics to medical devices and mobility solutions. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams including industrial designers, electronics and software engineers to create class‑leading products that make a real-world difference. This position includes opportunities for project leadership, mentoring junior engineers and managing client relationships, budgets and timelines. You’ll see your work progress from concept through to market launch, with the majority of projects reaching commercial production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical development on projects and contribute to strategic design direction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Oversee and support junior engineers, ensuring high standards of work.
  • Manage project deliverables including planning, budgets and client communication.
  • Present ideas and progress to clients in a clear and compelling way.
  • Apply creative problem‐solving and engineering rigour to develop innovative, manufacturable products.
Requirements
  • A degree (2:1 or above) in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline from a reputable institution.
  • Proven experience in product development, ideally within a consultancy or fast‑paced R&D environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including injection moulding and rapid prototyping.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as CAD and CAE software.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK and able to work on‑site as required.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience developing products in regulated environments such as medical or automotive.
  • Ability to create mathematical models or simulations to support design decisions.
  • Understanding of DFM, sustainability and cost optimisation principles.
