Responsibilities

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings and ensure accurate data collection.
  • Take responsibility for cancer registration dataset submissions.
  • Collaborate to develop policies for managing cancer patients.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cancer management targets.
  • Work closely with clinicians and nursing staff.
  • Arrange weekly MDT meetings and ensure resources are available.
  • Collate and disseminate MDT patient lists for discussion.
  • Record and communicate MDT discussion outcomes.
Job description

Fixed‑term contract/secondment opportunity until 1st December 2026

Responsibilities
  • Co‑ordinate multidisciplinary meetings, producing and disseminating the list of patients for discussion and ensuring accurate data collection to support the process.
  • Take responsibility for accurate data collection for the full Cancer registration dataset within the body site and submit it to the relevant National Clinical Audit.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead for the body site to develop policies and procedures that ensure seamless management of Cancer patients across all specialties.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all targets and processes relating to Cancer management and act as a point of reference within the department for other MDT members.
  • Work closely with Clinicians, Specialist Nurses, Secretaries and all MDT members within the body site to ensure that patients on a Cancer pathway are actively managed through the patient pathway.
  • Arrange the weekly MDT meeting and ensure appropriate venue and equipment are available.
  • Collate, produce and disseminate the MDT list of patients for discussion in collaboration with the Clinical Team to include all appropriate new and historic cases.
  • Ensure all information needed for a complete discussion is available and report any discrepancies to the MDT lead.
  • Record the discussion and disseminate it appropriately, including communicating information to GP’s.
  • Implement actions resulting from the MDT discussion.
  • Maintain an accurate record of MDT attendance and produce a yearly report for the MDT lead.
  • Be aware of staff availability and events that may impact MDT meetings (e.g., consultant leave, bank holiday cancellations) and liaise with the Patient Pathway Coordinator to make allowances for this in the patient pathways.
  • Develop systems to ensure rapid and effective communication between all MDT members.
  • Collate and input clinical data from MDT into the Somerset Cancer Registry under the direction of the MDT lead.
