Main duties of the job

This post provides strong leadership, visible, credible senior nursing presence accessible to staff, patients and their families for advice, assistance, and support. The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of optimum quality patient care in their areas of responsibility, and in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally

The Matron for Specialist Palliative Care services will provide senior clinical and professional nursing leadership to a fully integrated NHS service based at the acute hospital site and managed within the Medical Division.

Education, Qualifications and Training
  • oThe post holder will be a first level registered nurse with a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in Nursing and evidence of continuing professional development equivalent to post-graduate diploma level.
  • oDevelopment at Masters level or willing to undertake study at masters level.
  • oTeaching and assessing qualification
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
  • oMinimum 2 year's experience in Senior Leadership (Band 7 or equivalent) position
  • oExperienced in the field of Specialist Palliative Care.
  • oA proven track record in organisational leadership, leading change and service improvement
  • oContribution to strategic service planning (including workforce)
  • oExperience of change management and problem solving.
  • oKnowledge of NHS policy and practice
  • oUnderstanding of speciality
  • oA good understanding of and insight into NHS organisational culture.
