Job summary

Overview

An established high‑technology manufacturing organisation based in Southampton is looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer/Technician to join its Operations Engineering team. This role plays a key part in supporting production and enabling the introduction of new products in a fast‑paced, engineering‑led environment.

Responsibilities

As a hands‑on member of a business where design, development and manufacturing all happen under one roof, you will clearly see the impact of your work on real products. Working closely with production teams, you will support day‑to‑day manufacturing activities with a strong focus on fibre component manufacture, tackle production issues, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions to maintain quality, efficiency and output.

Alongside this, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, shorten cycle times and enhance manufacturing processes through lean and value engineering. You will create and maintain technical documentation such as SOPs, routings and specifications, ensuring processes stay accurate and up to date, and support new product introductions and process changes in collaboration with R&D and engineering colleagues.

Requirements
  • At least three years’ experience in a manufacturing support or process engineering role
  • Confidence in technical document writing and a strong root‑cause problem‑solving mindset
  • Good IT skills, particularly in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Experience in Process Manufacturing
  • Computer Literacy
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with fibre components, optical devices, lasers or fibre processing equipment
  • Knowledge of automation, machine controls or lean manufacturing techniques
