Project Development Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Worcester (site-based)
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

The Role

An innovative and rapidly growing medical device manufacturer is seeking a Project Development / Manufacturing Engineer to support the next phase of commercialisation and manufacturing excellence.

The business operates within a highly regulated ISO13485 environment and is committed to delivering market-leading orthopaedic implant solutions. Backed by private investment, the organisation is focused on scaling operations while maintaining exceptional quality and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

This is a hands‑on, detail‑driven engineering position focused on driving manufacturing processes toward zero defects, improving process capability, and enhancing operational performance.

  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods
  • Analyse process deviations, trends and performance data
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools (Kaizen, VSM, PFMEA)
  • Program and operate CNC machinery (including CAD/CAM interfaces such as AlphaCAM)
  • Support validation, documentation and regulatory compliance (ISO13485, GMP)
  • Assist in SOP creation, risk assessments (PUWER, COSHH) and training materials
  • Maintain production equipment and optimise output
  • Liaise with design and planning teams to ensure manufacturability
  • Contribute to KPI reporting and structured project planning

This role offers exposure to new product introduction (NPI) and bespoke implant manufacturing within a regulated medical environment.

Requirements
  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing engineering role
  • Experience within a regulated manufacturing environment (medical devices preferred)
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining & CAD/CAM (AlphaCAM desirable)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing tools
  • Knowledge of ISO13485 and GMP principles
  • Strong problem‑solving and project delivery skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks advantageous
