About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Major Trauma Patient Liaison Practitioner (MTPLP) to join our team. This pivotal role will be instrumental in establishing a holistic support service for patients and their families/carers throughout their major trauma journey.

The MTPLP will be fully integrated within the Major Trauma Service (MTS), providing personalised information, emotional and practical support and advocacy within the multidisciplinary team.

Key duties include:

  • Providing compassionate care and advocating for patients and families/carers.
  • Offering personalised information, emotional and practical support.
  • Ensuring high-quality legal and financial guidance and collaborating with our legal partner.
  • Supporting the Major Trauma Directorate to maintain effective clinical governance, risk management and patient safety mechanisms.
Responsibilities

You will be part of a dynamic team providing support and advice to major trauma patients across the Polytrauma Unit, Critical Care, Spinal Injuries Unit, Surgery and Medicine.

The MTPLP will offer compassionate support, advocate for the needs of patients and families/carers, and develop a robust resource to signpost to the most appropriate services and third sector partners.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification – Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Professional registration with a relevant governing body (e.g., NMC, HCPC).
  • Educated to MSc level in a relevant healthcare-associated subject or evidence of equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Relevant clinical background.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership and management skills.
  • Must be committed to the promotion of safety and quality throughout the organisation.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Ability to motivate and influence others to ensure sound quality and safety principles are embedded.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Major Trauma Networks and clinical pathways.
  • Demonstrated practical, problem‑solving approach to risk management / clinical governance.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Partnership working.
  • Previous experience of risk management / clinical governance / patient safety and quality.
  • Interest and knowledge in the broad Patient Safety healthcare agenda.
  • Welsh language skills (levels 1‑5).
