Job description

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

• Ensure compliance in line with all processes, procedures and policies that meet organisational standards/requirements, including Health & Safety Policy/HTMs and SFG20.
• Implement new or revised policies within own work areas.
• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services from the PPM planner, ensuring operational standards are maintained at all times. Duties may include fault finding, minor repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments.
• Assess problems to determine the best course of action, including complex technical issues.
• Maintain effective site log books at NHS premises in a timely and accurate manner.
• Work with and support the Projects/Construction team and Technical Supervisor in identifying, scoping, and delivering minor capital works for NHS premises.
• Plan and organise multiple complex activities and adapt within a changing and challenging work environment.

Job responsibilities

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - Plumbing. This role is based at Wokingham Hospital, 41 Barkham Road. It is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm). Starting salary from £39,000 (depending on experience) plus on-call allowance. This is a mobile role covering West Berkshire.

Requirements for the role

• Qualifications - at least one of the following:
  • BTEC City & Guilds plus relevant experience and training
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating Engineering or equivalent
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft-trained equivalent
• Driving licence is essential
• Must be comfortable using technological devices to log jobs
• On-Call availability
• Desirable to have industry experience
• Ability to work alone and/or as part of a wider team, with other Technical Disciplines

Please note, DBS checks and DVLA checks will be required for this role.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, relevant NHSPS Technical Guidance, processes and procedures, statutory regulations, and HTMs
• Implement new or revised practices and policies within your work areas
• Deliver scheduled, reactive and remedial maintenance services as directed by the PPM planner (CAFM), helpdesk or Technical Services Supervisor, ensuring operational standards are maintained
• Carry out fault finding, minor repairs or installations and maintain services and equipment in critical environments
• Undertake tasks in disciplines other than your own as required
• Assess problems to determine the best course of action, including communicating technical information to various stakeholders
• Maintain site log books at NHS premises where required in a timely and accurate manner
