Here at HitachiRail, we have a great opportunity for enthusiastic, self-motivated Maintenance and Overhaul Technicians to join our team based in Edinburgh.

Location: Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre, Edinburgh
Permanent contract

Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking overhaul, modification, corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, complex fault finding and repair on our fleet of ScotRail Class 385 and Lumo Class 803 trains. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment that values collaboration, adaptability, and innovation. You will be working on a rotating day and night shift basis, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our rail services.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Undertake overhaul and modification duties as directed by the Team Leader
  • Perform Scheduled Maintenance activities on rolling stock within the TMC in accordance with the vehicle maintenance instructions
  • Undertake servicing and preparation of rolling stock
  • Actively participate in ongoing continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and procedures that support depot and fleet activities
  • Support the delivery of new trains and undertake the maintenance acceptance processes
  • Ensure exam tasks are completed in a timely manner, undertake basic fault rectification or repair when required
  • Adhere to all health and safety processes and procedures
  • Attend testing locations, main line stations and outstations to undertake preventative and corrective maintenance as required
  • Be prepared to travel and overnight away from base location for short periods
  • Support the Maintenance Team Leaders and Production Managers in the delivery of the production plan
  • Record all work activities and stock consumption using the maintenance management system in accordance with maintenance processes and procedures
  • Work shifts to meet the service requirements of Hitachi customers within the TMC
  • Assist as required
About you
Required Skills/ Knowledge
  • Can comfortably work within a team or on their own
  • Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules and regulations (internal and external)
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times
  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure
  • Ability to investigate complex electrical and mechanical faults and write detailed reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company
  • Loyal, committed, confident and determined
Education/Qualifications
  • Served apprenticeship with mechanical and electrical disciplines
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3

Desirable Skills (not essential)
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings
  • Fire warden, First Aider
  • Powered plant and tools – cranes, air systems / 110v tools
  • Depot Protection
  • Working at Height, COSHH, Manual handling, AC/DC Depot isolation
