Overview

Maintenance Engineer – Flint. Salary: £56,700 Per Annum. Monday to Friday shift pattern.

gap technical is proud to represent an industry-leading and well-established manufacturing business in their search for an Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join their team.

Role Scope

To provide high-quality electrical maintenance support within a fast-paced packaging environment, ensuring machinery operates efficiently and safely. The role involves preventive and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement to minimize downtime and optimize production output.

Responsibilities
  • Electrical Maintenance & Repairs: Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on packaging machinery and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production lines, conveyor systems, motors, sensors, PLCs, and control panels.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with electrical regulations and company safety standards.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Carry out electrical testing and inspection of plant equipment.
  • Fault-Finding & Continuous Improvement: Identify and troubleshoot faults using electrical schematics and diagnostic tools.
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Work alongside the engineering and production teams to optimize machine performance.
  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to company health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring safe working practices at all times.
  • Ensure all electrical work is completed to relevant regulatory standards (e.g., IET Wiring Regulations).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaboration & Training: Work closely with production teams to minimize machine downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Assist in training operators on basic fault-finding and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues and junior engineers as needed.
Key Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Apprentice-trained in Electrical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3+ years\' experience in an electrical maintenance role within a packaging, manufacturing, or FMCG environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills on automated machinery.
  • Experience working with PLC systems (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.).
  • Knowledge of electrical safety regulations and standards.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement processes (e.g., Kaizen, 5S).
