Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Stevenage is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to provide support for operations, perform maintenance tasks, and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules. The ideal candidate should have an HNC qualification, strong fault-finding skills, and hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment. This is a 12-month contract with a competitive hourly rate and the potential for extension.

Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

Location: Stevenage

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day support to operations teams, ensuring process equipment and environmental stress screening (ESS) facilities remain fully operational.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on process equipment using drawings, schematics, manuals, and circuit diagrams.
  • Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks and ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
  • Maintain and repair process, ESD, and extraction/monitoring equipment.
  • Manage spares packages and external maintenance/breakdown contracts to minimise downtime.
  • Support operators in executing maintenance tasks, offering technical guidance and mentoring junior staff when required.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and documentation requirements.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Minimum qualification: HNC in a relevant engineering subject.
  • Strong fault-finding skills down to component level.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical instructions, manuals, and drawings.
  • Proven experience with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Hands-on experience working with manufacturing process equipment (CCA manufacture experience is desirable).
  • Knowledge of vibration shakers and environmental chambers is highly desirable.
  • Experience undertaking reactive maintenance down to component level on electronic manufacturing machinery.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple issues concurrently.
  • Experience using SAP is advantageous.
  • Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating across teams.
