Overview

The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craftsperson, and dedicated support staff. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant to join us.

You should be experienced in general property maintenance, groundskeeping, and/or handyman duties. This is a highly rewarding role working under the relevant Estates Officer, the successful candidate will embark on a challenging adventure, safely, efficiently, and with patient and staff safety at the heart of their focus.

Responsibilities & Duties

Working as part of a team and independently, you will be required to carry out semi‑skilled maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties. You will support and assist trade staff to undertake routine maintenance, fault‑finding/repair, and installation work to allow a safe and fit‑for‑purpose environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Essential Qualifications
  • Sound academic demonstrative qualifications.
  • NVQ level 2 or other recognised foundation qualification in maintenance.
  • Driving licence (B+E).
  • Risk Assessment Certificate.
  • Demonstrated previous experience in a maintenance support role within an engineering or building field.
  • Ability to manage priorities under pressure.
  • Ability to comply with the Trust’s policies.
  • Ability to travel between the Trust sites as required.

  • Proven ability to adapt to change and new ideas, knowledge and skills.
