Job description

Role: M&E Engineer (Turnkey)

Position: Contract

Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset

Duration: 12 Months Rolling

Rate: Circa £275 p/d PAYE + 36 days annual leave // Circa £370 p/d Umbrella

Job Purpose / Overview

As an M&E Engineer, you will be contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Equipment scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.

The role will be focused on the Turnkey discipline dealing with various Turnkey contractors delivering in both NI and CI-BOP areas but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such as the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).

Principal Accountabilities
  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the Turnkey Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co‑ordinating support from other external organisations.
  • Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
  • Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Equipment design, installation and/or commissioning.
  • Experience applying multi‑disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro‑active, report on and escalator relevant issues.
