Job description
Overview

Locum consultant radiologist post (12 months fixed term) at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post covers general radiology and cardiothoracic imaging and is primarily based at Queen's/King George Hospital, Romford, with potential work at Barking CDC (Barking) and St George's CDC (Hornchurch).

Role Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to:

  • share an office space and secretarial support with another colleague with access to a PACS reporting station;
  • report CT coronary angiography and have knowledge of cardiac MRI as required for an intended cardiac MRI service;
  • report cross-sectional images for general radiology on MRI and CT scanners at the CDC centres, King George3s and Queen3s Hospital;
  • contribute to the general duty roster and hot reporting sessions;
  • contribute to specialist MDTs with other colleagues in rotation;
  • participate regularly in mandatory department meetings;
  • share an on-call commitment equally with the general radiology consultants;
  • have access to a PC and a reporting workstation for remote image access for on-call purposes.
Role Requirements

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Full-time Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Cardiothoracic Imaging to join our Radiology Department to expand the team and enhance support for the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, motivated individual who can work flexibly in a team, collaborating with thoracic and body radiologists across sites to maintain and enhance a comprehensive emergency and elective thoracic imaging service. The appointee will also be part of a wider team of consultant radiologists providing subspecialty and general radiological services across the Trust.

The post will have a commitment to supporting a range of diagnostic services. Experience in expert thoracic radiology, cardiac imaging and lung cancer screening would be advantageous. The department works closely with the Trust9s pulmonology, pathology and oncology teams, in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons from neighbouring Trusts as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach to patient management.

We are an improving Trust with a diverse workforce of around 8,000 staff across two main sites (King George Hospital and Queen3s Hospital) and community diagnostic centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George3s Health and Wellbeing Hub. We are implementing an electronic patient record to improve accessibility of records across seven hospitals in the area.

Clinical / Operational Responsibilities

To adhere to clinical and quality standards, liaise effectively with colleagues, general practitioners, community services and healthcare agencies, and maintain and promote multidisciplinary working.

To maintain confidentiality of sensitive data per Trust information governance guidelines.

  • To use physical skills where appropriate and to use Trust resources and systems judiciously.

To participate in policy development and management of radiology services; attend governance, incidents, and audits as needed; attend essential operational and clinical meetings; maintain evidence-based practice; comply with Trust and departmental policies on job planning, appraisal and leave; deputize for absent colleagues to maintain timely core services; ensure prompt attendance at direct clinical care programmed activities; maintain mandatory training per policy; establish and maintain internal and external communication.
