Responsibilities

  • Deliver a comprehensive Plastic Surgery service across the trust.

  • Participate in postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, and governance.

Locum Consultant Plastic Surgery

County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust – The closing date is 23 December 2025.

This temporary post supports the expansion of Plastic Surgery activity within the Bishop Integrated Surgical Hub. The role may become permanent in the future.

Main duties of the job

The consultant will work with a 9‑member Plastic Surgery team based at the University Hospital of North Durham, serving the County Durham and Darlington population across multiple satellite sites.

The department provides elective and trauma plastic surgery through hub‑and‑spoke delivery from the University Hospital of Durham, day‑case and outpatient clinics at Bishop Auckland, Shotley Bridge, Sunderland, South Tyneside, and Sedgefield. Core specialities include skin, upper limb, breast reconstruction, perineal reconstruction, head & neck, hypospadias, and general trauma.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering a comprehensive, high‑quality Plastic Surgery service across the trust.
  • Utilising advanced microvascular and head & neck reconstruction techniques.
  • Ensuring patient access meets national wait‑time standards.
  • Providing professional and educational supervision to junior staff.
  • Participating in postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, and governance.
