Job description
Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Locum Consultant to join the Infection team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust part time for 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a restructured and forward-looking service, supporting the delivery of high-quality, integrated infection care across our three hospital sites.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of Consultant Microbiologists and Infectious Diseases Specialists and Consultant Clinical Scientists to provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective infection and microbiology service.

Applicants should have experience in Clinical Microbiology and/or Infectious Diseases. You must hold (or be within 6 months of obtaining) a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Medical Microbiology & Virology or Infectious Diseases & Medical Microbiology (or equivalent recognised qualifications).

Responsibilities
  • Provide a high-quality, cross-site infection service at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, including clinical microbiology, infectious disease consultation, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection prevention and control.
  • Laboratory oversight, authorising results, ward consultations, ICU rounds, MDT participation (e.g., diabetic foot, orthopaedics, haematology, TB), and public health liaison.
  • Active engagement in the Hospital Infection Management Service (HIMS), supporting outpatient antimicrobial therapy and complex infection care.
  • Leadership opportunities include Infection Control Doctor, Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, Clinical Infection Lead, or Laboratory Liaison Lead.
  • Support training, audit, and quality improvement, with participation in research, education, and ongoing service development.
