Main duties of the job
  • Teaching, training & supervision The post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching, teaching of junior medical and midwifery staff. We expect the post holder to have experience in teaching and training within the area of fetal monitoring and obstetric skills and drills. The post holder will be also expected to take an active role within the clinical and academic training and supervision of clinical fellows and core trainees within the department. The post holder will be expected to take part regularly in the multidisciplinary meetings held within the Women's Health Department.

The successful post holders will be expected to contribute to this both clinically and operationally.
  • On call The post holder will contribute to the obstetrics on call rota. Whilst doing obstetrics on call, the post holder will cover labour ward only.

Person Specification
Education

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate qualification
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of advisory appointments committee)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • ATSM Advanced LW practice or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Post Graduate Degree (MD or PHD)
  • Diploma or MSc in Clinical Genetics.

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in relevant specialty
  • Track record in clinical governance
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Desirable

  • Track record in complaints handling
  • Track record in serious incident investigations
  • Track record in service development

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to manage complex obstetric problems.

Desirable

  • Quality improvement training and experience- Competences in complex therapeutic invasive procedures (e.g., intrauterine transfusions, shunts, endoscopic procedures)

  • Good interpersonal skills and a caring attitude to patients
  • An awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses.
