Job summary

Applications are invited to apply for a locum appointment to Consultant Cardiologist, Cardiologist with a focus on General Cardiology. Applicants with specialist interests in other elements of the cardiology service will be welcome to apply. This post holder will flexibly deliver 6 PAs of General Cardiology outpatient and General/Specialty Cardiology triage, with up to 2.5 PAs negotiable for other specialist interests, if mutually agreed. A further 1.5 PA will be allocated to SPA time. The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary. The purpose of this appointment is to sustain clinical activity in advance of more long-term strategic developments to provide this activity.

Main duties of the job

  • Based at Leeds General Infirmary, a large and modern tertiary cardiac centre serving a population of over 3 million.
  • Provide general cardiology outpatient services and contribute to MRI provision as a Specialist PA; no on-call commitment in this post.
  • Work within Cardiology and across the Cardio-Respiratory CSU; link with consultant colleagues on relevant site specialist teams.
  • Engage in teaching and research activities and contribute to current clinical research programs.

Job responsibilities

General cardiology at LTHT is an essential component of the workload of the cardiology department, providing secondary level care for the population of Leeds. The Cardiac imaging department offers all cardiac imaging modalities including CMR, CTCA and is led by Dr Dominik Schlosshan. The CMR department performs over 2,500 clinical CMR scans and uses state-of-the-art MRI scanners. There are active teaching and research links with the Leeds School of Medicine and the University of Leeds, with a strong clinical research reputation.

The post is fixed term for 6 months starting as soon as possible, with options to extend if mutually agreed. Objectives include outpatient clinics (general cardiology) and a Specialist PA ideally to contribute to MRI provision. There is no on-call commitment. The post holder will link with consultant colleagues within the Cardiology department and across the Cardio-Respiratory CSU, and contribute to research, teaching and new developments.

Person specification

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Up to date and fit to practise safely
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics

Qualifications

  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Desirable: EACVI accreditation in cardiac MRI

Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research
  • Training experience with medical students and postgraduate doctors
  • Well organized with good time management
  • Ability to work within a team and effective interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Cardiology
  • Higher training in cardiac MRI with appropriate qualifications
  • Experience in regular clinical audit
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in managing general cardiac disease
