This is a great time to join The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Locum Consultant in Cardiology. We are excited to advertise a 10 PA post as a Consultant Cardiologist with subspecialty expertise in Cardiac Imaging with cross-site commitments between Hillingdon and Harefield Hospitals.

The successful candidate will contribute to the general cardiology work – ward rounds, outpatient clinics, referral vetting and GP advice and guidance at Hillingdon along with overseeing the echocardiography department and chairing a weekly imaging MDT (4 days). At Harefield there will be a day of imaging which can be tailored to the successful candidate’s subspecialty interests and departmental needs (1 day).

This post is a 12‑month fixed‑term locum. We anticipate that the post will become substantive following this period although the exact job plan may develop with time in line with departmental requirements.

The post holder will be a committed clinician with subspecialist training in Imaging Cardiology and will have a track record of excellent clinical service delivery, service improvement, teaching, training and other qualities as identified in the person specification.

Job Purpose

To provide clinical services in Cardiology at Hillingdon Hospital. This will include ward rounds, out‑patient clinics and reporting of direct access investigations. Participation in the acute medical rota would be possible if a candidate has a CCT in G(i)M.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • The principal role of this post is to provide direct clinical care.
  • To provide care to both inpatients and out‑patients to ensure that patients are provided with the highest possible standard of diagnosis, treatment and care in the most effective and timely way.
  • The post holder will supervise, train and manage junior medical staff and research fellows working within Hillingdon Cardiology, to ensure high standards of clinical practice and efficient use of resources.

Hillingdon Hospital is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services.

Our services are provided from both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital. The Trust has a turnover of around £250 million. We manage 614 inpatient beds and we employ over 3,300 staff. We deliver high quality healthcare to the residents of the London Borough of Hillingdon, and increasingly to those living in the surrounding areas of Ealing, Harrow, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire, giving us a total catchment population of over 350,000 people.

The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics. The Trust also acts as a landlord to a number of other organisations that provide health services at Mount Vernon, including East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s Cancer Centre.
