Job description
Overview

We are excited to welcome a Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our enthusiastic and dynamic group of Acute Physicians at Frimley Health Foundation NHS Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover.

Current Acute Medicine Service

The service spans across 64 beds. The Acute Medical Unit comprises a 34 bedded Medical Short Stay Unit (AMU Blue) and a 34 bedded Assessment Unit (AMU Green).

Key Responsibilities
  • Consultant led Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).
  • In-reach into the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Acute Medicine consultants rotate through Medical SDEC, AMU Blue, AMU Green and post-take in-reach into ED shifts.
  • Collaborate with other specialty teams, including a chest pain in-reach service from Cardiology (7 days a week) and an Acute Frailty service supporting referrals from the ED and AMU Blue/Green.
  • 12 hour weekday and weekend coverage with 24 hour primary PCI access pathways.
Work Pattern

The annualised rota equates to 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week on average, with participation in the general medicine on-call rota. This includes a 1:8 weekend commitment, with ward rounds on AMU Blue and AMU Green and post-taking in ED.

Role Development and Structure

The expansion will allow a restructure of the current working pattern; the roles and PA allocation are noted below but may be subject to change. Appointees will be provided with office space and excellent secretarial support. The job plan will be offered as 10 PAs, with potential to adjust the number of PAs by mutual agreement.
