Salary: £60,878.15 - £73,614.50

Based at Heathrow Tower, this is a watch keeping position reporting to the ATC Deputy Watch Manager.

Lighting Operators provide vital support to the Ground Movement Control position in the VCR and have extensive, detailed knowledge of the airfield. Furthermore, the post holder is required to support the ATC Watch Manager in the provision of an efficient and customer orientated Air Traffic Control Service.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Operation of the AGL panel in co-ordination with the Ground Movement Controller.
  • Selection of brilliance levels of runway, approach and taxiway lighting as directed by the Air Controller(s)/Supervisor.
  • Identification and reporting of faults in the lighting system.
  • Training of new Lighting Operators.
  • Other duties in support of the Heathrow operation, as directed by the ATC Watch Manager or VCR supervisor.
  • Liaising with external agencies such as Heathrow Airport Ltd staff and airline customers.
  • Other tasks appropriate to the ATSA 4 grade as directed by Unit Management.
Qualifications, skills and experience
  • Suitable candidates must show a high level of manual dexterity and the ability to rapidly acquire an in-depth knowledge of Heathrow procedures and produce high quality outputs, under pressure.
  • The interpersonal skills required to work with other staff, liaise with customers and operate effectively in a complex and demanding role in support of the GMC.
