A local government authority is seeking a Licensing & Commercialisation Officer to manage day-to-day licensing operations, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and City Council policies. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, along with experience in a licensing or customer-focused legal environment. The successful candidates will be working in our Regulatory Services team, which is made up of multi-disciplinary professionals, including Licensing, Trading Standards, Food and Safety, Housing Enforcement and Property Licensing. These specialisms embrace a range of service areas used by the community, which primarily involve people, businesses or organisations needing to obtain some form of consent or are required to comply with various legal provisions. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team working in a fast-paced environment. The City is diverse and has a vibrant night‑time economy. You will be a member of the Licensing team responsible for the day-to‑day operation in respect of the licensing function (including the licensing of alcohol sales, public entertainment, cinema, theatre, late night refreshment, sex establishments, gambling, scrap metal dealers and motor salvage operators) in Regulatory Services. You will assess licensing applications to ensure compliance with legal requirements and City Council policies and to ensure the appropriate processing and issue of licences in accordance with statutory guidance and agreed policies and procedures. You will also be responsible for providing a discretionary chargeable pre‑application advice service to assist businesses and new applicants.
Do you have experience working in a licensing or similar customer‑focused legal environment? If yes, we want to hear from you! As a Licensing & Commercialisation Officer, you will have knowledge and understanding of legislation with licensing and gambling and any associated regulations and policies relevant to the service area, including enforcement. We are looking for someone with the ability to deal confidently with a wide range of people, including licensees, members, solicitors, senior council officers, police, etc. You will need to have good written and oral communication skills. Organisational skills to enable workload prioritisation and meeting deadlines whilst working under pressure are key. When applying for this role, you will be asked to write a personal statement.
