Overview

Job Title: LGV Vehicle Technician

Location: Charminster, Dorset

Contract Type: Temporary

Salary: £16.62-£18.85 per hour

Hours: 37 hours per week

About The Role

This hands-on role supports the maintenance and repair of Dorset Council’s fleet vehicles and plant, ensuring safety, compliance, and minimal downtime. Based primarily at the Charminster depot, the technician will carry out servicing, fault diagnosis, and repairs across a diverse range of vehicles. The role includes occasional roadside support, out-of-hours work, and collaboration with internal teams to maintain high service standards.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out servicing, inspections, repairs, and MOT preparation
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs across a diverse fleet
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with health and safety standards
  • Support emergency callouts and roadside breakdowns
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders professionally
  • Clean vehicles and maintain workshop standards
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Motor Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance across a range of models
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills and familiarity with fleet management systems
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions and out-of-hours as needed
