Qualifications

  • Experience with civil law jurisdictions is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of EU public procurement regulations is desirable.
  • Proficient in another European language is a plus.

About the Team

Our Legal team provides expert advice across all key practice areas relevant to a global media and information business, including commercial, privacy, employment, intellectual property, corporate governance, M&A, compliance, and media law. We work collaboratively across regions to support Dow Jones’s business and growth objectives.

About the Role

We are looking for a Legal Counsel – Commercial to join our London-based team. In this role, you’ll advise on a broad range of commercial and transactional matters, with a focus on Dow Jones’s B2B businesses across the UK and Europe. You’ll provide practical and timely legal support that enables business goals while managing risk. Around 30% of your time will focus on supporting the integration of newly acquired companies into Dow Jones’s B2B operations.

You will report to the Assistant General Counsel based in the United States.

You Will
  • Be responsible for commercial legal matters arising in the UK and European region, including but not limited to advising Sales in relation to negotiation and structure of licensing transactions, and advising relevant personnel in relation to negotiation and structure of relationships with information providers, vendors, consultants, and distributors;
  • Review and negotiate inbound content and data licensing agreements, software development agreements, consulting agreements, NDAs and maintenance agreements;
  • Support integration streams for companies that have recently been acquired by Dow Jones, including contract harmonisation, and legal integration planning to support Dow Jones’s strategy;
  • Participate in activities to support the B2B sales and product teams, such as revising and updating contract templates, conducting training sessions for the B2B sales team, and sharing knowledge of legal and commercial policy changes with both legal and business colleagues;
  • Identify and evaluate legal and business risks in commercial operations to liaise with business leaders and other members of the Dow Jones legal department regarding solutions to those risks;
  • Participate in frequent but ad hoc projects which may be region-specific or global in nature;
  • Maintain updated knowledge of legal and regulatory developments, notably around GenAI, privacy laws and commercial licensing that are relevant to Dow Jones
You Have
  • Qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with 4–7 years PQE.
  • Strong experience advising on commercial and intellectual property matters; experience with civil law jurisdictions is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of EU public procurement regulations is desirable.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in another European language is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while exercising sound judgment.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with strong stakeholder management skills and cultural awareness across global teams.
