We are seeking an experienced Derivatives Lawyer to join our global legal team to collaborate with the firm to negotiate and provide legal advice with respect to derivatives transactions and other trading-related matters. You will work on a variety of transactions, which include commodities transactions, prime broker agreements, and other broker relationship contracts. In addition, you will work with the legal team to meet the ongoing legal services and counselling needs of our diverse trading firm. Areas of responsibility will include reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, corporate structure and governance support, regulatory advice for new business initiatives, and other corporate legal matters.

This role will be based in our London Office with the expectation of being onsite.

You will need to be well versed in derivatives and regulatory matters, have strong attention to detail, be intellectually curious and resourceful, and have excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships across offices and departments. You also must be able to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally, to global team members, department heads, senior management, and external parties.

What You’ll Do:
  • Work with our business development, trading, treasury, and clearing teams to assess the needs of the firm, advise internal constituents, and take the lead on negotiations with derivatives counterparties in all asset classes, as well as work on other trading-related agreements.
  • Counsel business units on contract strategy, including explaining contractual risks and obligations while suggesting strategies and alternatives, and negotiating contracts.
  • Identify potential regulatory issues relating to derivatives trading, and work with compliance, other internal stakeholders, and outside counsel to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with global legal team members and support business initiatives across time zones.
  • Assist on internal legal department projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.
Skills You’ll Need:
  • Solicitor or equivalent European legal qualifications.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Substantial knowledge regarding, and substantial experience negotiating, trading-related documentation, with a focus on ISDA documentation, prime brokerage agreements, futures and OTC clearing agreements, repurchase agreements, and electronic trading agreements.
  • Working knowledge of regulations related to derivatives and trading (EMIR, MIFID II and other international regulations).
  • Experience with energy and physical commodities transactions.
  • Experience working on derivatives transactions in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new subjects and business areas quickly.
  • Aptitude for easily explaining complex legal issues to business partners.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in fast-paced environment and exercise sound commercial and legal judgment.
  • Prior in-house experience, including at a financial services firm, is a plus.
