About the Role

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to design and deliver content across a range of modules, contribute to curriculum planning and development, and engage in scholarly activity, research or knowledge exchange.

(This is a full-time, fixed term contract until 1st December 2026, covering maternity leave. Immediate start preferred)

You will design and deliver high‑quality teaching across a range of modules, contribute to curriculum development, and support our institutional learning strategy. You will engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance teaching and student experience, seek external funding, and help develop new income‑generating opportunities.

You will build strong internal and external networks, working collaboratively with industry partners, professional bodies and the wider subject community.

You will meet quality assurance requirements, undertake departmental administration, support recruitment and promotional activities, and contribute to the wider professional responsibilities of the team. Additionally, you will mentor and support less experienced colleagues in their ongoing development.

About You
  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in primary science teaching
  • An excellent teacher with demonstrable interest in pedagogic innovation
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication and ICT skills
  • A secure knowledge of education policies in relation to primary education and training, including the ongoing changes to teacher education and the school system in England
  • A secure understanding of on‑going support and training needs of Newly Qualified Teachers.
  • Experience of working with ITE trainees or in Higher Education.
  • An ambition to develop a research and publication profile.
  • A good understanding of the changing HE landscape and its relevance to the Department/School/University.

Additional Information

This is a full‑time, fixed term contract until 1st December 2026, covering maternity leave.

Immediate start preferred.

  • Applicants with less than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to complete an approved Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education course during the first two years of employment.
  • Applicants with more than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to accredit their practice through the HEA fellowship application process during their 6-month probation period.
  • Whilst this post is offered on a full‑time basis, applications on a job share basis may also be considered.
