Lecturer in Electrical Engineering (Applied Mathematics)

Department: Electrical Engineering Location: Leicester Contract: long term Temp Start Date: Feb 23rd

Overview

We are seeking a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering with a strong background in applied mathematics and a commitment to high-quality, student-centred teaching. The role focuses on delivering the mathematical content of the course with 15 hours contact time. A good understanding of how theory connects with real-world electrical engineering systems would be vital and taught in an engaging way.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, curriculum development, and scholarly activity, 1-1 reviews and will be expected to demonstrate or develop recognised teaching qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in electrical engineering with significant applied mathematics content
  • Deliver courses in areas such as systems analysis, signals and systems, control engineering, electromagnetics, communications, or power systems
  • Design and update course materials that emphasise practical application of mathematical methods
  • Use inclusive, evidence-based teaching and assessment practices
  • Supervise undergraduate projects, postgraduate dissertations, and research students as appropriate
  • Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes
  • Engage in scholarly activity related to engineering education and/or applied research
  • Participate in academic administration and service duties
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • PhD (or near completion) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong foundation in applied mathematics (e.g. linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods, probability and statistics)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply mathematical methods to practical electrical engineering problems
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one within a specified timeframe
  • Examples include: PGCE, PGCert, Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice, or equivalent accredited teaching qualification
  • Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship of a recognised professional body (e.g. Advance HE / HEA)
  • Evidence of effective teaching or strong potential for teaching excellence
