Job summary

A local government authority in Greater London is seeking a Personal Advisor to support young people in developing essential life skills and transitioning to independence. About the Role

As a Personal Advisor you will play a vital role in helping young people transition to independence with confidence and resilience. Your support will cover practical life skills such as budgeting cooking and managing tenancies while ensuring young people remain engaged in education employment or training opportunities.

You will work closely with young people through regular visits building trusting relationships and delivering hands‑on support tailored to their individual needs. You will also take the lead in completing Pathway Plans creating clear achievable goals that empower young people on their journey to independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver personalized Pathway Plans focused on essential independence skills including financial management practical skills and problem solving and tenancy responsibilities.
  • Maintain regular meaningful contact with young people through home visits and outreach ensuring ongoing guidance and encouragement.
  • Work collaboratively with key partner agencies such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) housing teams rent management and the Virtual School to coordinate support and access vital resources.
  • Monitor and support young people's engagement with education employment or training helping them to set and achieve career and learning goals.
  • Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date completion of Pathway Plans tracking progress and adapting support as needs evolve.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification like BTEC NVQ or equivalent. This includes English and Maths.
  • Satisfactory employment references and CIFAS identity checks.
  • Satisfactory declaration of interest.
  • This role is subject to safer recruitment practices as it involves work with children and / or vulnerable adults.
  • Satisfactory DBS check.
  • Suitable drivers licence; Desirable but not essential.
