Job summary

A leading educational support organization in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work with students with social and emotional mental health needs. The role focuses on providing behavioural support and nurturing strong relationships with students. Ideal candidates will have relevant experience and a Teaching Assistant Level 2 Qualification. This temporary position has the potential to become permanent.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in an education or support setting with challenging behaviour.
  • Personal experience with mental health, SLD, PMLD, and Autism is beneficial.
  • Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 behaviour support to pupils.
  • Implement structures to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Act as a positive role model.
  • Provide numeracy and literacy booster sessions.
  • De-escalate volatile situations.
  • Support students aged 11 to 19 years.
  • Assist with personal care as needed.
  • Show resilience and adaptability.

Salary: £90 - £100 a day
Contract type: Temp – Perm and D2D

About the role

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our specialist SEMH/SLD provision in Stoke-On-Trent. As a Teaching Assistant in our provision, you will have the opportunity to use restorative practices to support our students in their social and emotional development.

We believe that empathy is of the utmost importance in working with young people, and we encourage our staff to build strong relationships with our students from the very beginning. In your role as a Teaching Assistant, you will focus on building these relationships in the first weeks, while also displaying your academic potential and social maturity.

At our SEMH/SLD provision, we believe that every student has the potential to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. Responsibilities
  • Providing 1:1 behaviour support to pupils with challenging behaviour and SEN requirements including SLD and PMLD.
  • Implementing appropriate structures to manage challenging behaviour, always being pro-active and engaging.
  • Acting like a positive role model and providing nurture support
  • Providing numeracy and literacy booster sessions out of the classroom
  • De-escalating heightened and volatile situations.
  • You will be supporting across Primary ages between 11 to 19 years old.
  • Personal care is mandatory within this school.
  • Resilience and adaptability to deal with a variety of emotional and behavioural challenges.
Qualifications and requirements

The ideal candidate should have experience working with challenging behaviour in an education or Support setting. Candidates who have personal experience working with challenging behaviour, mental health, SLD, PMLD and Autism are encouraged to apply.

  • Enhanced DBS Child and Adult Check – Must be on the update service. (We can assist you with a DBS if you do not have one)
  • 2x References are a must in order to clear your file with GSL.
  • Teaching Assistant – Level 2 Qualification or similar.
