Job summary

A leading charity organization is seeking a Learning Mentor to support individuals with learning disabilities at ROC College in Cornwall. The role involves assisting students with life skills development in various community settings. Ideal candidates will have experience with SEND and a patient, supportive attitude. This is a full-time position with an hourly rate of £12.40. Training and travel support are provided.

Overview

Join Our Team as a Learning Mentor at ROC College

Location: Cornwall | Function: ROC College | Accountable to: Curriculum Manager | Accountable for: Supporting and mentoring individuals within ROC College | Hours: 30 hours per week, Term Time Only (more than one position available) | Salary: £12.40 per hour

United Response is a registered charity, founded in 1973. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with learning disabilities, mental, or physical support needs have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. ROC College, a part of United Response, is a specialist college providing person-centred, community-based teaching and learning within Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset. We work with young people aged 16-25 with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Responsibilities
  • Support students aged 16-25 with EHCPs to develop life skills in various community settings such as learning hubs, libraries, workplaces, and leisure facilities.
  • Assess student progress and outcomes and help provide accredited learning based on a personalised curriculum.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working with individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Patience, supportiveness, enthusiasm, creativity, and ability to provide accessible education content tailored to students.
  • Flexibility to travel across the community with students.
  • Experience supporting Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) practice and promoting lifelong learning; strong understanding of complex behavioural needs is advantageous.
  • Experience working with individuals who have complex learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge; ability to work as part of a small team.
  • Experience with Proloquo2, Makaton, or willingness to participate in training for these communication methods.
