Job Title: Lead Scrub Theatre Practitioner

Location: The Portland Hospital, London

Hours: 37.5 Hours per week / Monday to Sunday + on calls requirement.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Scrub Lead Practitioner to join The Portland Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. This role is ideal for a confident, clinically strong practitioner who is ready to lead from the front and set the standard in perioperative care.

The Lead Scrub Practitioner at The Portland Hospital will be on hand to provide clinical leadership to support and direct colleagues to plan, monitor and evaluate skilled and appropriate care for patients undergoing different forms of surgery to ensure the provision of evidence-based care. The lead practitioner will ensure that all safety aspects of intraoperative care are adhered to.

You must act as a role model in providing specialist knowledge within the scrub area and be able to work as part of a team supporting and developing colleagues by mentoring and assessing their skills. The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. We're the UK's largest private children's hospital with over 46 paediatric beds including a 10-bed intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, and a day-case unit. Caring for over 40,000 children a year, we provide treatment for children from new-born up to the age of 18. Surgeries range from minor ENT surgery to complex cardiac and spinal conditions involving a wide variety of professional. The five theatres at Portland provide a vibrant, exciting and professional environment to develop your skills, where you will work alongside world experts from some of the country leading teaching hospitals to provide exceptional healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure all equipment and specialist kit is available, fit for purpose and functioning

  • Help to control cross infection by observing and supporting departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.

  • Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery

  • Ability to communication effectively and calmly in stressful situations

  • Work professionally with others of the multidisciplinary team, including with consultants

  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in the appropriate staffing and allocation of scrub duties.

  • Ensure the cost effective and appropriate use of resources with consideration and due regard to budgetary control.

  • Motivate members of staff, achieve high morale and promote effective communication with the department.

Skills and Experience:

  • Substantial post-graduate experience in Theatres in a senior role

  • Recent paediatric caseload experience

  • Operating DepartmentPractitioner/RegisteredNurse qualified

  • Current HCPC/NMC Registration
