Post: Alcohol Worker - Lead Practitioner
Service: South Lanarkshire Alcohol & Other Drugs Reachout Service
Based: South Lanarkshire
Hours: Full Time (37 hours)
Salary: £26,076-£29,144 (£13.55 - £15.15 per hour)
Contract: Permanent

Could you be part of an exciting opportunity to develop and provide an alcohol specific service within South Lanarkshire? Turning Point Scotland South Lanarkshire Reachout service is offering the opportunity to work within a supportive team to provide intensive case management and post and pre-detox support. This new service will reach people by operating an Assertive Outreach model designed to take services to where people are and engage those who services have traditionally struggled to reach. The service will operate throughout South Lanarkshire with offices in Cambuslang, Hamilton, East Kilbride and Clydesdale. It will deliver structured interventions including harm reduction advice, psychosocial support and community engagement, and will support people to prepare for detox, during detox and afterwards in both community and hospital settings.

Responsibilities
  • Work with individuals who have a wide range of support needs based on their alcohol use, providing practical and emotional support to help them achieve personal outcomes in daily life (safety, meaningful activities, community involvement, physical health, relationships, emotional health and wellbeing).
  • Operate an Assertive Outreach model to take services to where people are, including presence at community events to identify those who need support with alcohol and raising awareness about alcohol harms.
  • Provide intensive case management and community engagement; personalised support planning; and structured psychosocial interventions (e.g., ABI’s, emotional support, motivational interviewing, crisis interventions, family support, and onward referrals).
  • Link with community resources and work in partnership with other services including health professionals and CAReS.
  • Support engagement with services and attendance at appointments when required; provide information and advice to help people make informed choices.
  • Provide pre- and post-detox support and information about detox pathways, including residential rehab information/referral and planning for post-detox community support.
  • Participate in multiagency reviews; contribute to harm reduction including alcohol management plans, hydration and nutrition; use alcohol screening tools to identify problematic or dependent consumption.
  • Support to build Recovery capital and linkage with recovery services; encourage engagement with peer networks in the community.
  • Work with family and friends, other professionals, advocacy services, and our own staff to ensure person-centred support.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience within the Alcohol and Other Drugs sector preferred.
  • Ability to provide practical and emotional support and encourage individuals to achieve personal outcomes across daily life areas.
  • Values of respect, compassion, inclusion and integrity.
  • Full driver’s licence and access to own vehicle is desirable due to the geographic area; mileage paid at 45p per mile when using own vehicle for work purposes.
  • Full IT skills are required for all vacancies; registration with SSSC within 6 months of start date where applicable.

The support provided is person-centred, involving the person’s family and friends, other health and Social Work professionals, advocacy services, and staff members. The role supports individuals to engage with services and to access appropriate referrals and responses to their alcohol use.
