Job summary

Job description

Are you ready for your next step in paediatric pharmacy? We're looking for an experienced pharmacist to join our friendly paediatric pharmacy team at St Mary's Hospital.

  • Work in a leading teaching hospital, just five minutes from Paddington Station and close to the West End.
  • Be part of a supportive team, with opportunities to develop your clinical and leadership skills.
  • Rotate through a range of paediatric specialties, including general paediatrics, haematology & bone marrow transplant, intensive care & infectious diseases.
  • Lead and mentor junior pharmacists, including managing a band 7 W&C pharmacist and supporting trainees.
  • Collaborate closely with consultants, doctors, nurses, and other professionals in a multidisciplinary environment.

Who we're looking for:

  • Good experience with hospital paediatric pharmacy.
  • Specialist experience in some areas (e.g. intensive care, bone marrow transplant, oncology, infectious disease) is desirable, but training will be provided.
  • Someone motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to learn.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care for children and young people.
  • Take part in guideline development and review.
  • Help manage drug spend and support cost-effective prescribing.
  • Provide training and teaching for pharmacists and the wider team.
  • Get involved in risk management, audit, and quality improvement.
  • Support new drug applications.
  • Provide clinical and specialist support to the outpatient pharmacy partnership.
  • Deputise for the Senior Lead Pharmacist when needed.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Active registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Diploma or MSc in clinical pharmacy practice or equivalent
  • Undertakes continuing professional development (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio
  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) membership
  • Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacy Group (NPPG) membership
Experience
  • Post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy including substantial experience in paediatric pharmacy.
  • Evidence of experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing)
  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, assimilate and communicate complex therapeutic options for patients.
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit and/or quality improvement to improve practice.Previous experience in managing staff
  • Clinical risk management
  • Financial reporting and management of appropriate clinical medicines expenditure
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and senior management.
  • Computer literacy to effectively use computer systems including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyse and provide valuable insight from drug usage reports.
  • Able to work under pressure and make clinical decisions with limited information
  • Microsoft Office applications at an advanced level
  • Communicates best practice both inside and outside the organisation
  • Core clinical practice to equivalent of Faculty of Paediatric Pharmacists Advanced level 1/2 or RPS faculty Core Advanced Level practice
