A healthcare organization in Doncaster is seeking a Lead Nurse to drive the delivery of Integrated Sexual Health Services. Lead daily delivery of Integrated Sexual Health Services as “Nurse-in-Charge,” supervising nursing staff, resolving clinical/operational issues, and liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
Act as joint clinical lead for STI assessment and treatment, working with the Lead Consultant to plan, deliver and evaluate development programmes for nurses and HCAs.
Develop, implement and review clinical policies, guidelines, audits and governance activities in line with local and national guidance.
Support the development of advanced practice, including PGDs, non-medical prescribing, and extended nursing roles through documentation, training and service-led initiatives.
Deliver nurse-led clinics including history taking, physical examinations, sexual health screening, microscopy, venepuncture, point-of-care testing and triage.
Provide expert clinical advice and direct patient care across contraception, STIs, LARC fitting/removal, treatment prescribing and partner notification.
Act as a clinical expert, sharing specialist knowledge and supporting the clinical development of colleagues.
Advise patients on contraception, STI detection, risk reduction and prevention.
Triage clients, undertake history taking, clinical examination and interpretation of findings, involving medical staff when required.
Perform symptomatic/asymptomatic screening for all genders and complete partner notification and results discussions.
Conduct microscopy, venepuncture and point-of-care testing.
Line manage senior nursing staff, providing professional leadership, supervision, appraisal and development.
Support safe staffing, workforce planning and rota management across teams.
Lead recruitment, selection and induction of nursing staff.
Promote team leadership, teaching and development, ensuring a culture of accountability and professional growth.
Investigate and manage incidents and complaints, escalating as required.
Oversee clinic supplies, equipment and budget use.
Actively engage with local/national forums to advance nursing practice.
Deputise for the Service Manager when required.
Implement and support service, clinical and professional practice developments within the team.
Contribute to clinical governance objectives, audit, monitoring of activity and evaluation of service performance.
Identify and communicate changing service needs to the Service Manager.
Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge and share learning with the team.
Support the clinic as a structured learning environment, delivering training needs analyses and teaching programmes.
Lead induction, training and continuing education for nursing, agency, bank and student staff.
Participate in clinical audits, research activity and the implementation of evidence-based practice.
Support and supervise medical students, pre- and post-registration nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Take responsibility for your own and others’ health, safety and welfare, complying with Health & Safety regulations and relevant policies.
Maintain confidentiality at all times, sharing information only with authorised individuals in line with the Data Protection Act.
Comply with Infection Prevention and Control policies, applying standard precautions consistently and maintaining up-to-date knowledge through mandatory training.
Ensure clinical practice supports the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections, safeguarding the wellbeing of patients, visitors and colleagues.
Follow all Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults procedures, including recognising concerns, knowing reporting pathways, attending required training and maintaining professional boundaries.
