Lead HPC Infrastructure Engineer

Description

We are looking for a Lead HPC Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing IT Team here in Silverstone. Within this role, you will lead the design, implementation and operation of Linux-based HPC solutions to support the engineering functions of the team and ensuring HPC platforms deliver the speed, scalability and reliability required for critical workloads such as CFD and FEA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation and operation of cutting‑edge HPC clusters supporting CFD, FEA and other core engineering workloads.
  • Provide expert‑level operational support to ensure HPC environments run with maximum performance, reliability and observability.
  • Drive the full migration of our HPC infrastructure to a new datacentre facility, working closely with our technical partners.
  • Optimise hardware, schedulers and parallel computing frameworks to maximise throughput and reduce latency.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to streamline CI/CD pipelines for simulation software.
  • Work closely with aerodynamics, CFD and structures colleagues to align compute resources with evolving engineering needs.
  • Lead planning, budgeting and delivery of HPC projects against ambitious timelines.
  • Proactively contribute through meetings, cross‑team collaboration and professional representation of the function.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Deep expertise in Linux (Rocky 9) administration, tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of HPC architectures, parallel computing, CPU/GPU technologies, interconnects (InfiniBand, Omnipath) and MPI.
  • Hands‑on experience with HPC schedulers—ideally Slurm.
  • Proficiency with automation (Ansible, Terraform) and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools, Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD and containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Strong grasp of datacentre design, including power, cooling, racks and networks.
  • Excellent understanding of storage solutions such as NetApp Santricity and parallel file systems like BeeGFS.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure with calm, confident decision‑making.
  • A collaborative, flexible and positive approach, thriving in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Previous experience in Formula One or high‑level motorsport is highly advantageous.
