Job summary

A leading educational institution in Nottingham is seeking a full-time Technician to provide laboratory support within their School of Medicine's Nottingham Digestive Diseases Centre. The ideal candidate should have relevant qualifications and experience in a technical/scientific role along with good communication skills. This position offers a salary between £24,727 and £27,720 per annum pro rata, with a fixed-term contract until November 30, 2027.

Overview

MED231925 An opportunity has arisen for a Technician to work within the School of Medicine's Nottingham Digestive Diseases Centre (part of Translational Medical Sciences and closely linked to the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre). This will be primarily based at Queen's Medical Centre. The person appointed will be working in a busy clinical area, providing laboratory support to research studies.

Responsibilities
  • Process samples and maintain facilities and equipment within the area to enable safe and effective use of the laboratory.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 2 A levels in relevant subjects or equivalent vocational qualifications (NVQ, City & Guild) or relevant work experience in a technical/scientific role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Experience handling human tissue and knowledge of the law surrounding HTA is highly desirable.
  • Flexibility, dynamism, energy and initiative; ability to work independently and as part of a team; good communication skills.
  • A positive and flexible approach to work to handle a variety of requests and tasks.
Contract and Hours
  • Fixed term contract until 30 November 2027.
  • Full-time hours: 36.25 hours per week. Job share arrangements may be considered.
  • Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered with prior agreement from your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post.

Salary

£24,727 to £27,720 per annum pro rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
