Job description

Avantor is looking for a proactive Laboratory Technician, to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this position, you'll support bioreactor operations and be responsible for preparing media, feeds, and reagents across a range of bioreactor scales - from bench to large-scale systems. You'll play a key part in assembling and cleaning bioreactor vessels and glassware, while also ensuring equipment is well‑maintained, calibrated, and any issues are swiftly addressed in collaboration with engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare bioreactor reagents, including media, feeds, and buffers – across various scales, routine transient processes
  • Assemble, clean, and maintain benchtop bioreactor vessels and associated laboratory glassware to ensure readiness for use
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, promptly reporting issues and coordinating with engineers for resolution
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of critical reagents and general lab supplies, ensuring continuous availability and supporting procurement activities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised lab environment, contributing to 5S initiatives and adhering to health and safety regulations
Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum of five GCSEs including Maths, English and at least one Science subject; A‑Levels or equivalent qualifications and prior lab experience are desirable
  • Experience: Previous hands‑on experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in a similar role, is advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail, good organisational and planning abilities
  • IT proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and eager to learn, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent customer service focus, clear written and verbal communication skills, and confidence in problem‑solving and managing multiple tasks effectively
