About Sumner School

Sumner School is seeking enthusiastic and collaborative kaiako to join our team in 2026. Successful applicants will likely be working with ākonga in Years 0–4, within our purpose-built flexible learning spaces.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a kura where people truly matter. We are looking for kaiako who:

  • enjoy working collaboratively and leading learning with warmth,
  • bring strong curriculum knowledge and an understanding of collaborative teaching pedagogy,
  • are passionate about engaging tamariki in rich, meaningful learning, and
  • are committed to our school Vision of “Connecting with our people, our learning and our place”.

Sumner School is a very special place to be. Our curious and creative ākonga, highly skilled kaiako and incredibly supportive whānau and Board create a strong sense of community. We believe tamariki learn best when they are happy, engaged and inspired. Our learning programmes are designed to meet their needs while nurturing their strengths, sparking their interests, and supporting their aspirations.

Wellbeing and Character Education sit at the heart of our kura. We aim to grow not just the minds of our tamariki, but also their hearts, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and Positive Education tools they need to choose to flourish.

If you are excited about making a difference for our tamariki, working as part of a supportive team, and continuing to grow your own practice, we would love to hear from you.
