Junior Accounts Assistant (Permanent, 4 Days Per Week)

Location: LS10, Leeds (On-site)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 4 days per week, 9am to 4pm

Salary: £20,000-£25,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Reports to: Accounts Manager

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accounts Assistant to join our friendly team in LS10, Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to start or progress their career in accounting, with a focus on accounts payable, reconciliations, and general accounting support. Purpose of the Role

As a Junior Accounts Assistant, you will be supporting the Accounts team in a variety of day-to-day accounting duties. This includes handling invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with reconciliations. The role is ideal for someone looking to develop their accounting skills in a supportive, small business environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process supplier invoices and ensure they are accurately entered into the accounting system.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing supplier payments and updating the cashbook.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure all transactions are correctly recorded and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Assist with month‑end close, including preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare reports for management, including accounts payable / receivable and cash flow updates.
  • Assist with VAT returns and other financial reporting as required.
  • File and maintain financial records, both paper and electronic.
  • Handle general office administration tasks, such as filing and data entry.
  • Support the Accounts Manager and other team members with ad‑hoc tasks as needed.
Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable with general office IT systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise across different departments.
Desirable
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks).
  • Basic knowledge of VAT and general bookkeeping principles.
  • Previous experience in a finance role or studying towards an accounting qualification (e.g., AAT or similar).

Working Hours & Pay
  • 4 days per week, 9am to 4pm (flexible on which day you work).
  • Permanent contract.
  • Salary: £20,000-£25,000 per annum (depending on experience).
