Job description

On behalf of a trusted public sector client, we are recruiting for a skilled Joiner to support a busy maintenance team working across a variety of public buildings and facilities. This role offers stable, long-term work with a respected organisation focused on quality and community service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a wide range of first and second fix joinery, including fitting doors, windows, floors, partitions, and roofing structures.
  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance across council-owned buildings, including community centres, offices, and leisure facilities.
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, job sheets, and joinery specifications.
  • Install and repair fitted furniture, fixtures, staircases, and other bespoke wooden structures.
  • Use and maintain hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety regulations, building codes, and quality standards.

Additional Duties:

  • Work from maintenance schedules and specifications where required.
  • Identify, order, and collect required materials.
  • Assist in coaching and on-the-job training for apprentices, temporary staff, or contractors.
  • Participate in performance monitoring and reporting procedures as set by the service.
  • Drive fleet vehicles to and between work sites when necessary.
  • Where applicable, supervise assigned staff and contribute to their development through effective training and task management.

Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Relevant experience in joinery, ideally within a public sector or commercial property setting
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Sound knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools
  • Awareness of site health and safety standards and ability to follow safe work practice
