Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking an IT Technician to provide onsite support at schools in Essex. The role involves delivering 2nd–3rd line support, maintaining customer-focused service, and engaging in continuous improvement of IT services. Ideal candidates will have solid IT support experience, excellent communication skills, and a proactive attitude. This is a temporary position for 3-6 months with a pay rate of £150 per day.

Overview

Role: IT Technician

Location: Colchester & Halstead - 5 days onsite

Contract: 3-6 months

Pay Rate: £150 per day PAYE

Responsibilities
  • Provide onsite IT support at two schools in Essex (Colchester or Halstead); role based at either location.
  • Work in an onsite environment delivering 2nd–3rd line support as required.
  • Maintain customer-focused service, including clear communication with users at all levels.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies, procedures and codes of conduct; report safeguarding concerns in line with policy; participate in safeguarding training as required.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of IT service delivery and maintain up-to-date inventories.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience in an onsite environment providing 2nd–3rd line IT support.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
  • Experience in education or a similar sector is preferable.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with people at all levels.
  • Ability to explain technical matters to non-technical users in plain language.
  • Team player, proactive, with good listening and constructive input.
  • Empathetic, calm, and professional under pressure.
  • Good judgement and decision-making; know when to escalate or signpost issues.
  • Willingness to establish new processes or follow existing ones.
Technical Skills
  • Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022
  • Windows 10 and 11
  • Active Directory support
  • Office 365; Microsoft Office desktop
  • LAN & WAN technologies and protocols (VLAN, wireless, DNS, DHCP)
  • MIS experience is useful but not essential
  • Azure AD and some knowledge of Intune
  • Desktop/Server hardware support and troubleshooting
  • Apple device management and support (mainly iPads)
  • AV and interactive boards/screens; shared printing solutions
