Overview

This role is for a Project Accountant responsible for providing financial oversight, governance and reporting on large-scale projects; ensuring risks, opportunities and performance are effectively managed. The position requires strong project accounting expertise, stakeholder engagement alongside the ability to partner with leadership teams to drive strategic and operational success.

The company is a well-established organisation within the engineering sector. Operating as a medium-sized enterprise, they are known for their robust operations and commitment to delivering high-quality products and services. As part of the Senior Finance Team, this global commercial finance role will support the financial oversight of major projects, contributing to all aspects of delivery including strategic development, operational performance and organisational efficiency.

Working closely with Project Partners, Directors and Managers, this role will provide value-added support, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures and presenting reports and performance updates to senior leadership. The position requires extensive project accounting experience alongside broad financial and systems knowledge. The role will be responsible for governance, early warning reporting, and ensuring risks and opportunities are captured with up-to-date Estimates at Completion (EAC). A commercial understanding of project operations, coupled with the ability to act as a business partner to project teams, is key.

Responsibilities
  • Provide financial oversight and commercial insight to project teams.
  • Develop and communicate project reporting packs for leadership.
  • Ensure strong project governance, attending and contributing to governance meetings.
  • Deliver accurate monthly cost forecasting, variance analysis, and early warning reports.
  • Build strong partnerships across multidisciplinary and regional teams.
  • Analyse and report on project performance, risks, costs, and cash management.
  • Support the preparation and review of Estimates at Completion.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality and accuracy across financial reporting.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and oversee invoice schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.
  • Provide constructive input into project boards and contract review meetings.
  • Drive best practice for major project finance across the organisation.

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent).
