Job description

I am fortunate to be able to represent this hydraulic business, which is based in the heart of the Midlands, close to the Burton-on-Trent area. They initially started the business almost 12 years ago, where there was only a very small team, and they have now progressed to a team of 22, which includes both Workshop, Office and Field-based Engineers. They are today one of the leading specialists in their industry and take pride in providing the highest level of service to many industries throughout the UK. They have a newly created opportunity for a Hydraulic Service Engineer to join the business. They are prepared to pay a highly competitive salary, circa to £45k to £50k basic with overtime, although there is some flexibility in this if appointing a specialist in Industrial Hydraulics, who requires little training. Opportunity comes with a fully expense company van, additional day rate when on the road, overtime paid over a standard 40-hour week and much more.

Types of individuals who will consider this opportunity are as follows:
  • Mechanical Fitter who is highly experienced in industrial hydraulics.
  • Hydraulic Service Engineer who is already working within this field as a specialist engineer.
  • Mechanical Engineer who is working in the workshop or field and has experience in Hydraulics.

We envisage this opportunity will be a combination of both workshop and field-based, with a 60/40 split, leaning more towards field. This will vary depending on the level of experience of the individual.

Responsibilities of the Hydraulic Service Engineer
  • To carry out routine maintenance, servicing and (breakdown) repairs of hydraulic equipment, manufacture of new systems and machines, along with cylinder refurbishments, pipe fitting & manipulation - on customers' premises or in the workshop.
  • General engineering, maintenance, and installation of hydraulic systems.
  • The Hydraulic Service Engineer will be covering servicing works in all aspects of hydraulic engineering.
  • Ensuring site-specific H&S Rules are followed when working on customer sites.
  • Support installation, commissioning activities, field troubleshooting and fault finding.
  • To advise customers on the proper operation of the equipment where required.
  • Take charge of own work and manage accordingly to ensure jobs are carried out in a timely fashion.
  • From time to time, provide more detailed Service/Technical job reports on specific product or customer issues.
Requirements of the Hydraulic Service Engineer
  • Applicants must be experienced in Industrial Hydraulics.
  • Really open to job title, possibly Service, Fitter or Engineer.
  • Happy to work a dual role, with a mixture of both workshop and field-based work.
  • Preferably level 3 qualified in City & Guilds Mechanical or Hydraulics.
  • Served a full apprenticeship.
  • Clean UK Driving License.
  • Flexible to spend the occasional nights away from home, if travelling further afield.
