Housing Support Officer

Permanent, 35 hrs per week, Huddersfield – £23,400 per annum.

Hamilton Woods Associates are currently recruiting for a Housing Support Officer to join a social housing provider on a permanent basis, that supports young people aged 16‑25 years. The main purpose of the role will be to assist them in developing life skills, regain stability and transition into independent living.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining supportive, trusting relationships with young residents, acting as a mentor and guide in their journey towards independent living.
  • Supporting young people in navigating housing applications, securing move‑on accommodation, and understanding tenancy rights and responsibilities.
  • Assisting residents to improve life skills such as budgeting, cooking and managing tenancies.
  • Developing relationships with external services such as mental health professionals, employment services and social workers, to ensure holistic support for residents.
  • Assisting with day‑to‑day operations, ensuring accommodation remains a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment.
  • Monitoring residents’ progress, keeping accurate records, and reporting on outcomes as needed.
  • Facilitating group workshops on topics like independent living skills, confidence‑building, and personal wellbeing.
  • Assisting residents in crises and challenging situations.
Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to undergo one.
  • Experience in working with young people, particularly those affected by homelessness, trauma, or mental health issues.

PLEASE NOTE: applicants purely from a care background will not be considered. Applicants MUST have worked within a housing support capacity.
