Our housing stock lies within the Borough of Reading, and our vision is for everyone to have the opportunity to live in a good quality sustainable home, within a lively and thriving neighbourhood. We’re working to improve disadvantaged areas and enhance people’s lives across the Borough, including a carbon neutral strategy. We are part of a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of 43 staff across 5 teams – Building Surveying, Housing New Build, Compliance, Mechanical and Electrical, and Quality Assurance. Our role is to deliver a varied programme of repairs, maintenance, refurbishment, and redevelopment to our housing stock alongside our Direct Services Organisation. We are open to flexible working patterns and can provide a hybrid working environment combining office work (off Junction 11 of the M4) and homeworking, according to the needs of the Service.

Role overview

The role will require a good understanding of building pathology to identify structural and other related defects and to manage packages of works to eradicate and/or reduce the build-up of airborne moisture which, in turn, is affecting the property by presenting surface mould and other disrepair characteristics. Through partnership working with both the tenant and contractor, you will arrange and manage works from inception to completion to ensure a seamless approach is delivered. You will ensure that all disrepair and housing conditions claims are dealt with in a consistent, timely manner through to resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and manage packages of works to address structural and related defects and reduce mould and other disrepair characteristics.
  • Coordinate and oversee projects from inception to completion in partnership with tenants and contractors.
  • Ensure disrepair and housing conditions claims are handled consistently and timely through to resolution.
About you / Qualifications
  • A good communicator with a proven background in building maintenance and construction.
  • Good understanding of building pathology.
  • Experience of working as a Disrepair Surveyor.
  • Understanding of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Understanding of and experience with a Schedule of Rates.
  • Degree in Building Surveying, or HNC or similar in a building discipline.
  • Competent use of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Full driving licence and vehicle.
Our offer / Benefits
  • Competitive salary with a range of benefits including: Full surveying kit and PPE, payment of professional fees, and generous holiday entitlement (25 days + bank holidays, rising to 30 days after 5 years, 33 days after 10 years; option to buy additional leave).
  • Flexible working opportunities and modern working environment at the Bennet Road Offices, off Junction 11 of the M4.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
  • Kennet Day nursery rated outstanding by Ofsted located at The Civic Offices in Reading town centre.
  • Season Ticket Loan for rail/bus costs, and a lease car salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Access to an online employee benefits portal with monthly offers.
