A vibrant and high-aspiring 11–18 academy in Northampton is seeking a dedicated History Teacher to join its humanities team from January 2026 (or earlier). This full-time, permanent position will see you teaching across Key Stages 3–5, including A-Level. The role is ideal for someone excited to shape ambitious learners and contribute to a thriving school culture.
We’d love to welcome a teacher who:
Experience of organising field trips, linking with local heritage sites or museums, or leading enrichment (debating, research clubs, history societies) will strengthen your application.
This mixed 11–18 academy has over 1,700 students on roll and is part of a well‑known national trust. It holds an Outstanding rating in all areas following its most recent inspection. Pupils are known to thrive, staff deliver an exceptional education, and behaviour is polite, respectful, and calm.
The school has a flourishing Sixth Form, boasting state‑of‑the‑art facilities including IT suites, silent study rooms and social areas. Students regularly progress to prestigious universities, with a strong track record in STEM and humanities.
Academic outcomes at GCSE are strong: the school’s provisional Progress 8 score is +0.82, and nearly 80% of students achieve 5 or more Grade 9–4s including English and Maths. The history and humanities faculty is respected for offering a connected curriculum, rich with source work, historical thinking skills and student‑led inquiry.
The leadership places strong emphasis on equity, individual support, and high expectations for all. Teachers consistently praise the collegial culture, strong leadership, and the emphasis placed on professional development, with many opportunities to lead, research or specialise further.
You will plan rigorous, engaging lessons across the full age range, encouraging historical thinking, analysis of sources and student‑led investigation. You will contribute to curriculum development, assessment design and cross‑curricular projects (e.g. linking with English, Politics or Geography). You may lead visits to heritage sites, local archives, or museums, and support scholarship or research projects for Sixth Formers.
Collaboration is central: the history team shares resources, co‑plans, and regularly evaluates practice. Your voice will be heard; you’ll be empowered to bring in fresh ideas and help shape the direction of the subject area.
If you are a motivated History Teacher eager to thrive in a supportive, high‑performing environment, please submit your CV. Early applications are encouraged, as interviews may be scheduled before the closing date.
